A tidy home is a goal many of us have, but getting there can feel like a never-ending battle. A messy home is often the result of a series of habits and it can be hard to change them all at once. Instead, try implementing just a few daily rules that will keep your home cleaner.
1. Clean as You Go
Instead of green cleaning company for a massive clean-up, wipe down surfaces as you work or play in your home. This will cut down on dusting and cleaning time. It also gives you a chance to check things, such as the contents of your fridge (you may need to do a deep clean around and in appliances) or whether there are flyers, magazines, and other junk mail that can be tossed right away.
2. Take Ten Minutes to Tackle a Messy Space
Set a timer and pick a room in your house that needs to be cleaned or organized. Start with a high-traffic area, such as a kitchen table or a hallway. Work to get it back to functional, then move on to another area that needs some attention. Repeat this as needed throughout the day.
3. Make a Rule to Put Things Away
Teach your family members the importance of putting items away immediately. This will cut down on piles of clothes or books that can build up and become a clutter problem. It will also teach your kids to be responsible and help out. It may take a while to get everyone on board, but teaching them how to do their own chores will ultimately save you a lot of time.
